3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones. The .3gp extension is for GSM-based mobile phone, while the .3g2 extension if for CDMA-based mobile phones.
3GP format stores video streams as MPEG-4 Part 2 or H.263 or MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC/H.264), and audio streams as AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+ or AAC-LC. The media format supported 3GP phones include asf, avi, flv, mp4, rm, vob, mp3, ogg, ac3, aac, wav, wma.
